Introduction --------------- This document contains installation instructions, last minute notes about the product, and contact information for ObjectWorld Inc. 2. Brief Product Description ---------------------------- CallAttendant is a personal call processing system that allows you to define how you want your calls handled while you are away from the phone. CallAttendant works with Unimodem/V compatible voice modems and other voice compatible TAPI devices to provide custom call answering solutions to the small business and home office professional user. 3. Note for Users Upgrading from Previous Releases -------------------------------------------------- Before installing this version of CallAttendant over previous versions, you should back up your CallAttendant Data directory. The default installation location is: C:\Program Files\CallAttendant\Data After installing the new version of CallAttendant, we recommend that you check to ensure that all your data is intact. If not, you can copy individual files from the backup copy of your data directory to the new data directory. Users who have made modifications to the Sample Mailbox properties, will have to return the mailbox properties to their previous values. Most notably, your mailbox password. 5. Prior to Installation ------------------------ 1. Please ensure that you have the latest version of your modem’s INF files. These are the .INF files that are on the disk shipped with your modem. They can also be downloaded from your modem vendor’s web site. It important that you have the correct files for your voice modem, and not the files for the non-voice version of your modem. If you have any questions regarding obtaining these files, contact your modem vendor. Almost ALL modems problems are a result of incorrectly installed, or incorrectly functioning modems. Please consult your modem manufacturer to resolve modem issues. Your modem must be TAPI compliant. CallAttendant works with TAPI compliant voice devices that support 'automated voice'. If you are unsure if your modem or telephony device supports TAPI, you should consult your modem or device manufacturer. 6. No Voice Modem Notice ------------------------ ObjectWorld permits you to evaluate CallAttendant without having a modem installed correctly. The Configuration Wizard will warn you if you do not have a supported modem, and will allow you to continue. You should be aware that if you do continue, CallAttendant will not be able to answer calls or send faxes. 7. Installation --------------- If you are installing the update, please skip to the next section 'Update Installation'. 1. Run the self-extracting file you have downloaded to start the installation process. 2. You will then be stepped through the installation of the program. At various points you will be asked questions regarding the installation, such as where you want the program to be installed. For most users, the default options should suffice. If the install program detects that you do not have Unimodem/V installed on your computer, it will prompt you to install it. The install program will copy the required Unimodem/V files to your computer, and will install Unimodem/V on to your computer. Unimodem/V is a generic voice modem driver provided by Microsoft that should work with most voice modems. You must have Unimodem/V installed to use CallAttendant with voice modems. 8. Update Installation ---------------------- 1. Run the self-extracting file you have downloaded to start the installation process. 2. CallAttendant Updater will run and display information about the version you already have installed. Click Next to proceed with the update. Once the update has completed, run CallAttendant to re-run the Configuration Wizard and to re-enable call answering. 9. CallAttendant Setup ---------------------- 1. Run CallAttendant by locating and selecting it from the Start Menu. The default installation options will place it under Programs, CallAttendant. 2. CallAttendant, when launched for the first time, will run its Configuration Wizard. This wizard will step you through the process of setting up CallAttendant. It is essential for the wizard to be completed successfully if CallAttendant is to work properly on your computer. The wizard will do the following: * Indicate what steps will be performed. * Ask you to register your version of CallAttendant. * Ask you for necessary personal information that will be used when sending e-mails and faxes. * Set up your e-mail systems and network connections. * Locate all compatible voice modems, and allow you to select one to use with CallAttendant. * Set up CallAttendant to answer the phone as a typical answering machine. * Indicate that CallAttendant has been setup successfully. 3. Once the Configuration Wizard has run successfully, CallAttendant will open its main window. If the wizard fails to run successfully, you should check any messages it gives you as they will assist you in setting up your computer for use with CallAttendant. 10. Using CallAttendant Client with CallAttendant 2.1.x ------------------------------------------------------- CallAttendant 2.1.x and higher now support the CallAttendant Client. Client licenses must be purchased separately. Visit http://www.objectworld.com/caclient/ for information on CallAttendant Client. 11. Known Problems ------------------ 1) Some modem/Unimodem combinations may not detect short DTMF tones. If callers are unable to operate menus from digital telephones and corporate PBXs, this is the probable cause. 2) Only True Type fonts can be used in the Cover Page Editor. 3) The fax printer driver does not always work when the Service Editor window is open. Close the services you are editing and try printing again. 4) Faxing may not work when sending faxes to fax machines that have different paper sizes. 5) DTMF tones that are entered too quickly during the playback of an announcement may sometimes become lost. Entering tones slowly avoids this problem. 12. Changes Since Version 2.1.0 ------------------------------- 1) Fixed support for sending e-mail using Simple MAPI to non-SMTP mail systems 13. Fixes many known issues with sending and receiving faxes, especially with U.S. Robotics (3Com) modems. 5) Telephone line configuration has been separated from the options dialog. 6) With CallAttendant Client, you can now access your CallAttendant mailboxes remotely (similar to CallAttendant Pro). CallAttendant Client licenses must be purchased separately. 7) Added status display while registering product and when sending in product feedback. 8) CallAttendant now supports CallAttendant Client. 9) Other minor bug fixes. 14. Changes Since Version 2.0.1 (Build 98) ------------------------------------------ 1) Fixed registration issues with systems with Internet Explorer 3.0 or earlier. 2) Improved fax detection error messages and user feedback. 3) Fixed redraw problems in Service Editor. 15.
